Videos Claiming To Show Giant Carrot And Pineapple Grown On Sri Lankan Farms Are AI-Generated

Claim: A couple of videos showing a giant carrot and a huge pineapple grown on farms in Nuwara Eliya and Gampaha.

Fact: The videos are AI-generated.

Two videos have been widely circulated on Facebook and TikTok as “true” footage from Sri Lanka, purportedly showing farmers proudly displaying a giant carrot and a gigantic pineapple that were grown on their farms in Nuwara Eliya and Gampaha.

Fact Check/Verification

Newschecker observed that the two videos depicted the men walking in a slow manner, even as the movements and details seemed blurry, suggesting that the visuals may be AI-generated. We also checked for “Gampaha Estate” and “Nuwara Eliya Farms”, as seen on the signboards in the viral video, which did not yield any results.

We then ran the videos past a couple of AI content-detection tools, Hive Moderation and WasItAI, which yielded the following results:
