A video shows President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announcing the launch of a “Quantum AI Trading Program” for Sri Lankans.
The video is fabricated. The original footage is from a Sinhala speech delivered at a national ceremony to mark World Environment Day in Kegalle on June 5, 2025, not about cryptocurrency or investments.
A TikTok video claims to show President Anura Kumara Dissanayake addressing the public in English and promoting the “Quantum AI Trading Program.” The video is circulated with a caption in Tamil that reads: “Have you ever seen our former Presidents speak English like this?” The same audio has also been used in another TikTok that used a key frame from the President’s speech.
1. The original video was recorded during the World Environment Day event held at Nidahas Mawatha, Kegalle. It was uploaded by the Department of Government Information (DGI) on YouTube and also reported by several media outlets.
In the original speech, President Dissanayake spoke about environmental policies and national commitments to sustainability. There was no mention of crypto trading, AI investment schemes, or financial products.
2. AI-generated audio: Resemble AI’s analysis tool flagged the viral clip’s audio as 100% AI-generated.
The audio lacks natural tone and rhythm, with lip movements out of sync with the dubbed English, and the accent resembles an artificial Indian-English pattern rather than the President’s real voice.
3. The transcript of the speech includes typical fraudulent investment hooks. It makes promises of guaranteed profits, claims that no prior financial knowledge is needed, and suggests that greater investments will always bring higher returns. It even includes an unrealistic assurance that participants would personally receive $2,500 if they failed to make a profit. The speech also pressures viewers with urgent phrases such as “limited spots” and “register today,” which are standard red flags in online scams.
4. Official warning: The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has repeatedly cautioned the public against cryptocurrency and trading schemes. It has not authorised or licensed any such programs in the country.
The viral TikTok video claiming to show President Anura Kumara Dissanayake promoting a “Quantum AI Trading Program” is a deepfake scam. The original footage is from a Sinhala speech delivered on World Environment Day in June 2025. AI detection confirms the English audio is fake, and the speech contains typical scam language, including promises of guaranteed profits and personal compensation.
