Video showing the baby found in a paddy field in Paragahadeniya, Singapura Road, Kurunegala.
The footage is a compilation of clips featuring two different babies uploaded on social media at different times.
A video is currently circulating on social media claiming to show a baby found in a paddy field along Singapura Road in Paragahadeniya, Kurunegala, Sri Lanka.
A user on TikTok shared the video with the caption in Tamil that read, “Recent photo of the baby found two days ago in a paddy field on Singapura Road, Paragahadeniya, Sri Lanka… look at the beauty of this little angel..”
These posts, containing images and videos of the baby, went viral on TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and X platforms. The posts can be seen here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
We first checked whether mainstream media had reported any news of a baby being found in a paddy field in Paragahadeniya, and found a news video of a statement from Mawathagama police stating that a newborn baby, just two days old, had been rescued alive from a paddy field in the Paragahadeniya, Singapura area, Kurunegala, on Thursday afternoon (17.07.2025).
However, this police report did not contain any photographs or video footage of the rescued baby.
Using reverse image search methods to analyze keyframes from the video circulating on social media, we found that the clips used in these posts were of two different babies, shared by two different social media accounts at earlier times.
One such video was found to have been uploaded on April 26th by the Instagram page Ihaan_aizel.
The other video was uploaded on July 15th (15.07.2025) on the YouTube channel Cute Babies.
The baby mentioned in the claim was rescued from a paddy field on Singapura Road, Kurunegala, and handed over to the police on July 17, 2025, while the videos being shared on social media had already been uploaded online before that date.
The video circulating as that of the baby found in a paddy field in Paragahadeniya, Singapura Road, Mawathagama, Kurunegala, is not genuine. The footage is a compilation of clips featuring two different babies uploaded on social media at different times.
