A viral graphic, purportedly issued by the Sri Lanka Police, lists higher fines for traffic-rule violations.

Some of these claims can be found here, here, here, and here.
Owing to the current discussions about Sri Lanka’s economic status and because the amounts appear to be significantly higher than the previous traffic fines, we decided to check the veracity of the claim. For example, this graphic states that the penalty for speeding is 30,000 Sri Lankan rupees while the latest rate announced by the police was 3,000 Sri Lankan rupees.
2. We then checked the latest amounts for traffic violations specified in the viral social media post, and were directed to the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Act, No. 10 of 2019, which specifies amounts that are significantly lower than the amounts in the graphic.
3. We then noticed that the Sri Lanka Police had made an announcement on their Facebook page stating that traffic fine amounts have not been increased, showing a side-by-side comparison of the chart used in the viral graphic and a chart with the real values.

The post urges citizens to be mindful since the amounts in the viral graphic are false.
4. We were also able to corroborate this update via news articles from Newswire.
